Opalinnskyi Roman


20. 11. 1962, Horodok, now Lviv district, Lviv region – a painter. Honoured Artist of Ukraine (2009), Honoured Worker of Culture of Poland (2013). Member of the NUAU (1995). He graduated from the Lviv. Graduated from the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (1992, teachers: A. Bokotey, V. Ryzhankov, O. Zvir, P. Markovych, V. Moskaliuk). In his hometown, he worked as a decorator in a department store (1985-87); designer in the Ukrainian-Canadian company ‘Pysanka’ (1992-98). Since then – at creative work. His main fields are easel painting and decorative and applied art. Creates works in the technique of levkas and author’s technique, which combines artistic processing of wood, glass, metal with painting. Sources of creative inspiration – Byzantine iconography, Ukrainian folk painting, folk myths and legends, reinterpreted through the artist’s individual worldview. Participant in regional, all-Ukrainian, international art exhibitions since 1990. Personal exhibitions in Lviv (1994, 2004, 2007, 2009-10, 2015, 2017), Kyiv (2005, 2012, 2014), Slavske (Skole, now Stryi district, Lviv region), 2016), Erftstadt (Germany, 1995), Utrecht (Netherlands, 1996), Belchatów (2003, 2007, 2014), Radomske (2003, 2014), Zgierz (2003, 2014-15), Stalowa Wola (2006), Kraków (2007, 2015-16), Warsaw (2012, 2016), Mysłęczyce, Libąży (both 2015), Gorlice, Krosno, Rzeszow (all 2017; Poland), Snina, Bratislava (both – 2007), Banska Bystrica (2008; all – Slovakia), Basel, Zurich (2011, 2013, 2014; both – Switzerland), Edmonton (Canada, 2015), New York (USA, 2016). O.’s works were awarded the international prize “Michelangelo’s David” (Rome, 2021), “Leonardo Prize in Applied Arts” (2nd place, Chianti Art Museum, Italy, 2013). Some works are kept in the MEHP (Lviv), Zaporizhzhia. Museum of History of Kamianske (Dnipro region), art collections of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Cathedral in Mdina (Malta).
