Alyona Shybunova
Alyona was born on June 10, 1983. She lives in Kyiv. She graduated from the Vasylkiv Children’s Art School and received higher education in 2005 from the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, specializing in fashion design.
In 2010, she held her solo exhibition “Living Geometry” at the Svitlytsia gallery. In 2023, she had another solo exhibition, “Silence,” at the Avangarden gallery in Kyiv, Ukraine. In 2024, her solo exhibition “Archaeology of the Future” was presented at the Kirisenko Art Gallery, Kyiv. In 2010, she was awarded a certificate of appreciation for her significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian traditional culture by the public organization “Malva Foundation for the Preservation and Development of Ukrainian Traditional Culture.”
From 2014 to 2015, she studied contemporary art at the School of Contemporary Art at the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems, focusing on contemporary art courses.
From 2016 to 2018, she was a co-founder and participant of the art group Light, tutored by Myroslav Vaida. She also took private lessons from Myroslav Vaida. The group implemented several projects, including: “Plastic Period” at the International Winter Land Art Festival Mythogenesis, Scythian settlement, Vinnytsia region; “Her Space” at Lab 24, Kyiv; “Leaving No Traces…” at Gogolfest ArkSquat, Kyiv; “Out of Zone” at the XXI International Land Art Symposium Mogrytsia, Sumy region; video documentation of the performance “Connections” at the NewWave Exhibition vol.2, Lviv; installation “Rain” at the National Botanical Garden of Ukraine, Kyiv.
In 2018, she participated in the “Where to Next?” exhibition at IZOLYATSIA Ukraine, dedicated to ecology. She also realized her own project “Loneliness in the Web” as part of the Air GogolFest festival in Vinnytsia.
In 2019, she participated in the “Blockheide Leuchtet Licht. Kunst und Natur” festival in Gmünd, Austria. In December 2019, she realized the joint project “2\1” (with Eugenia Antonova) at the Art Basement of the Kharkiv Municipal Gallery.
In 2021, she participated in the exhibition “Where I Am” at the Dzyga gallery in Lviv. In 2022, she contributed to the “Light Defeats Darkness” exhibition at Green Hill Gallery in Berlin, Germany. In 2023, she took part in the exhibition “Home for Christmas” at the Ukrainian House, Kyiv, Ukraine.
Alyona Shybunova is a multidisciplinary artist. Her main media are sculpture, installation, and performance, including interactive installations and performances. The artist explores her own identity and the essence of the identity of the Ukrainian people.
