Cargo ship “City of Swansea” & tugboat “Fighting cock”

Oil on canvas

Among the large number of archival photos from different times, I was attracted by one, where a huge ship and a tugboat are so touchingly depicted – a small helper of a large port. Subsequently, I found, by the characteristic outlines of the hull, that the ship is a cargo ship City of Swansea – one of five owned by Ellerman Lines and a tugboat – a bright representative of the Liverpool Fighting Cock docks of Liverpool Screw Towing.

Unfortunately, the name of the author of the photograph from the D.B. Hillman Collection is not known. Today, rethinking the past, I have breathed new life into a story that was so touchingly recorded andpreserved by posterity as the maritime heritage of Great Britain.
